Save money with Pass Plus

Passing your driving test is only the beginning of learning to drive.

This is what people who have just passed have often been told by parents, uncles and just about anyone with some driving experience behind them would have you believe.

There is a grain of truth in this.

Pass Plus is a scheme that was developed by the DSA with input from driving instructors in 1999 because of the disproportionate accident rates among new drivers. For example, in Fife, Scotland, the Pass Plus scheme helped to bring down the percentage of young people blamed for accidents from 69% to 42% in 4 years.

Your Benefits:

  • You'll improve your existing skills and pick up some new ones.
  • You'll understand how to reduce the risk of having a crash.
  • You'll develop a better relationship with road users.
  • You'll boost your confidence.
  • You'll get a discount on your car insurance of up to 30%.

Your Pass Plus course is divided into six modules:

  1. Introduction and town driving.
  2. Dual Carriageways.

  3. Motorways.

  4. Country roads.

  5. Different types of weather.

  6. Night driving.

Your course will have some flexibility in that some of the modules can be incorporated into the same lesson, but the minimum length is six hours.

You won't be tested at the end, but there is a continuous assessment through the course.

Your Pass Plus course can be taken up to two years after passing your practical test.
